Private Behavior Coaching
Teenage Tornado
Has your super cute, cuddly puppy turned into half shark, half bulldozer? Has your teenager suddenly lost the ability to hear any instructions? Have you come home to furniture chewed up by a dog who used to be just fine left alone? Guess what! As absolutely frustrating as it is, this is all normal teenage behavior, but that doesn’t mean we have to resign ourselves to despair. In fact, it can mean a lot of fun!
I’ll help you deal with some of these teenage challenges by heading off problem behaviors, strengthening the relationship between you and your pup, and learning how to meet the needs of your growing dog. We’ll meet the needs for both ends of the leash, transforming frustration into joy.
Dogs with Big Feelings
Does your dog have a lot to say about the world? Are you left feeling embarrassed every time you go for a walk and frustrated that others just.don’t.get.it? Does your dog shut down for no apparent reason? You probably got your dog wanting a true companion and now don’t know how to move forward with all these feelings. Hoo boy, have I been there!
Reactive and sensitive dogs are my absolute favorite. I love getting to know each dog on their own terms and doing some creative problem solving to help humans and dogs both succeed in their unique environments. By changing the underlying feelings and teaching new skills and behaviors, I’ll help you get your life back and build the relationship you always wanted with your pup.
Play Coaching
First things first - hands are not chew toys! As exuberant and fun-loving as our dogs are, play can be a little frustrating for both human and pup when the “rules of the game” aren’t clear. Does it sometimes feel like you and your dog are playing two different games, less like play and more like a battle of wills?
Just like you, your dog has a favorite way to play. We’ll tap into that intrinsic desire to play with you to find the joy of playing together. We’ll find what you both love, how to start that play, and ways to signal clearly that playtime is over (especially important for our young dogs!).
Whether you have a new puppy working on using her teeth appropriately, a ball-crazed teen who needs some help lowering that energy, or a senior who doesn’t quite play like she used to, I can help you and your dog speak the same language and truly engage together to develop that deep joy that only play provides.
How does it work?
Initial Consultation - We’ll meet to get to know you, your pup, and your goals together. You’ll learn some tricks to put into place right away and strategies for further training. I’ll develop a custom plan to set you and your pup up for success. You won’t be left hanging, either! I’m more than happy to field concerns and celebrate successes as you put that plan into practice! - $125 for 90 minute session
Follow-Up Sessions - I’ll coach you as you put those skills into practice. We might take field trips to try those skills in the “wild” in a safe, constructive way or we might introduce some new skills as you and your dog continue growing. Everything is tailored to you and your situation! - $95 per 60 minute session.
